Am I Eligible For Social Security?

The Social Security Act defines "disability" as: "[the] inability to engage in any substantial gainful activity by reason of any medically determinable physical or mental impairment which can be expected to result in death or which has lasted or can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than 12 months."

Social Security Requirements

Social Security eligibility requires meeting these criteria:

  1. You must show that you are not currently working.
  2. You must show that your impairment is severe.
  3. You may be found disabled even without a discussion of your past work if your impairments meet or equal the criteria of a disability listed in Social Security's regulations.
  4. You must be unable to perform your usual work or other work due to your disabilities.
